I have always had an appreciation for the value of “old” things. While I have had no formal training or specific work in this area prior to joining the Charles City Historic Preservation Committee it has always been an interest. From growing up in a simple, 100 year old farmhouse that had been lovingly cared for to now owning my own 100 year old home and learning about the process of proper care and maintenance of such a house I feel I have lived experience in basic preservation. As a transplant to Charles City the opportunity to learn more about local history through involvement on this committee was part of the reason I wanted to join. My background, rather than history, is in science. I received my Bachelors of Science in Secondary Biology Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 2001. I currently teach 6th grade science in the Charles City Community School District. I also serve as a member of the Charles City City Council. While a large portion of my time is devoted to
